The other day, during my routine flight from Utah to Washington, I bought my usual Green Machine Naked juice. I noticed it had something called spirulina. But I didn’t think anything of it. Then yesterday I bought a apples and green smoothie, just because it had spirulina in it. I had no idea what it was, so I figured I would do some research.
Spirulina is a blue-green algae that grows in alkaline water. It has been labeled a “super food” for its high concentration in vitamin B12.
They adapt to different temperatures and are capable of retaining its nutrients in high heat, making it great for cooking and eating. Personally, it kind of freaks me out. But I eat seaweed and I feel like they are pretty much is the same concept.
I advise getting Green Machine or Apples and Green if you like drinks that aren’t as sweet as others. I definitely will continue to get drinks with Spirulina. There is questioning that Spirulina may cause damage to the liver. Some studies show that the small amount of toxins in Spirulina has little to not effect on the human body while others make the claim that it is significant. It is up to you to decide who is right. If there is one thing I have learned is that the internet will always have information to support both sides to every argument.
